The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services is to respectfully promote the health, safety, self-sufficiency and well-being of children, families and individuals, creating hope for the future.

Del Norte County Public Assistance

The Public Assistance branch of the Department of Health and Human Services consists of many programs, such as cash assistance to families with dependent children, supplemental food assistance, medical coverage, and additional programs under each of these categories.

Elk Valley Rancheria – Housing

The Elk Valley Rancheria Housing department, California (rancheria is a Spanish term meaning a small Indian reservation) is geographically located in Tolowa ancestral territory, close to Yurok lands, and our Tribal rosters include people of both Tolowa and Yurok descent.

Gasquet Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) provides home repairs at no cost to low-income qualifying homeowners. NHN is unique in that by providing home repairs at no cost, we not only repair a home, but also offer the homeowner, and the community, a preventive solution to the problem of homelessness.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities.

Harrington House Shelter and 24 Hour Crisis Line

We are an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. You must be in imminent danger to qualify for shelter. We provide many other types of assistance, so please call.

Housing Authority (HUD)

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is responsible for national policy and programs that address America’s housing needs, that improve and develop the Nation’s communities, and enforce fair housing laws.

Laundry Love

Established 2003 in Ventura California, Laundry Love (LL) washes the clothes and bedding of low/no income families and person(s) across the U.S.

LIHEAP

LIHEAP is a federal program operated locally by the Del Norte Senior Center – Community Action Partnership of Del Norte that provides assistance to eligible low-income households to manage and meet their immediate home heating and/or cooling needs. The program also provides low-income households with services to weatherize homes so they are more energy-efficient.

Tolowa Dee-Ni’ Nation: Mvn’-dvn (Housing Division)

The Housing Department was established in 2001 through the rescinding of the Smith River Rancheria Housing Authority. The primary purpose of the Department is to ensure housing resources of the Nation are secured. The Department oversees eleven programs, and has been awarded HUD grants annually. The primary function on the Department is to provide appropriate housing for the citizens of the Nation.

Yurok Housing Authority

The Primary Mission of the Yurok Indian Housing Authority shall be to provide affordable, safe and decent housing to lower-income tribal members. Affordable housing services shall include, but not be limited to, rental and homeownership programs serving to increase housing opportunities within our communities.
